Nectarines

Nectarines: Do I Really Want One?

Nectarines are a funny kind of Peach.

  • How do you tell a nectarine from a peach?
Easy: nectarines have a shiny, waxy, smooth skin and peaches are fuzzy all over.
  • And nectarines taste, well, distinctly nectarine-ish! Not really scientific we know, but nectarines just have their own distinct flavor.
  • Nectarines are self-fertile, meaning it only takes one tree to get fruit. There's no need for a second tree as a pollinator.
  • They flower in February and March, producing plump, juicy fruit from late April throughout the month of May (for Florida).
  • You can expect your new 7g tree to begin to fruit the first spring after planting.  For more fruit sooner, we have super 7g & 15g trees available: see below.

a nectarine is just like a peach but with shiny, smooth skin -- no fuzz

All the varieties listed below were developed by IFAS especially for this area of North Florida & Central Florida:  zones 8a, 8b, 9a, & 9b
